An active member of the military means:
1. Active Duty, for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps under a call or order that does not specify a period of 30 days or fewer; or
2. In the case of a member of the National Guard, training or other duty, or a period of 180 consecutive days or more for the purpose of organizing, administering, recruiting, instructing, or training the reserve components.
A dependent of an active member of the military typically includes, but is not limited to:
1. The member’s spouse;
2. Any children or legal dependent under the age of 21, unless they’re enrolled in college or are incapable of self-support; or
3. Parent or parent-in-law who is or was dependent on them for over one-half of their support and residing in their household.
